A new national survey on young workers by the AFL-CIO suggests that there is a "lost decade" for young workers who are increasingly unemployed.
About a dozen people attended a roundtable discussion on Tuesday. Among the topics were the burden of student loans, lack of health insurance and retirement plans and dire employment options. Some were workers in their 20's and 30's, others were students at The University of Pittsburgh.
The report found that young workers of color, young workers without college degrees and women struggle more.
It also found that young workers are increasingly moving out of their parents homes and starting their own families until they are financially stable.
Ten years ago, the AFL-CIO commissioned a similar survey of young workers. In that time, not only have they lost financial ground, they have also lost their optimism.
