The United States Secret Service has released the outline of the two land security perimeters and boundaries for water and air traffic. Beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday September 23, through 8 p.m. Friday September 25, no cars will be allowed in an area starting at the Allegheny river running south on 7th street to Liberty avenue, along Liberty to 7th Avenue, along 7th Ave to Grant Street, along Grant to Liberty again and into the strip district to 13th street and then down to the river. A smaller zone where no one will be admitted without passing through a metal detector has also been established around the convention center. Two checkpoints have been established to allow access within the smaller boundaries. One will at 9th Street and Penn Avenue and the other at 10th Street and Liberty Avenue. The U.S. Coast Guard will restrict boat traffic on the rivers starting at 6 a.m., September 24, through 10 p.m., September 25. Navigation will be restricted in the entire width of the rivers from the West End Bridge on the Ohio River to the South Shore Marina on the Allegheny River and to the 10th Street Bridge on the Monongahela River. In addition to these restrictions, the City of Pittsburgh will be announcing a more comprehensive transportation plan in the coming days. Additional announcements are expected in mid-September regarding temporary closures near the Phipps Conservatory and other event sites. Rolling closures will also be announced throughout the event as dignitaries are shuttled from one location to another.
