Toomey, Sestak Differ On Reducing Health Care Costs

Senate candidates from both sides of the aisle shared the stage in Allentown last night, holding a joint town hall meeting on health care restructuring. However, the incumbent, Arlen Specter, who is seeking reelection was not invited.
Democrat Joe Sestak and Republican Pat Toomey both agree incumbent Arlen Specter has overstayed his welcome in the Senate.
They also agree health insurance is too expensive, and the market isn't competitive.
Sestak wants to change that by bringing a public insurance option into the mix, so consumers have a broader range of coverage choices.
Toomey wants to bring prices down by encouraging more private competition.
He argues companies would compete for customers with lower prices and higher service, just like businesses in other sectors do.
The crowd at Muhlenberg College was emotional but respectful. There were no shouting matches or interruptions along the lines of the town hall incidents in the news this summer.
