President Could Speak at CAPA

Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) 6-12 is one of 6 finalists to have President Barack Obama as their commencement speaker. This is the second year for the Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge and Kalamazoo Central High in Michigan was last year's winner.
The President set a goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020 and invited public high schools to submit applications that demonstrate their commitment to preparing students for college and a career.
The other finalists are Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, Washington; Wayne Early Middle College High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina; Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee; Science Park High School in Newark, New Jersey; and, High Tech High International in San Diego, California.
“I want to congratulate the six finalists for all they’ve done to prepare their students for college and careers, and I want to thank all of the schools that applied,” said President Obama. “I look forward to meeting the students and teachers of the winning school at their commencement.”

All six schools will now produce videos about their schools and they will be posted on the White House website and the public will vote for the final 3. The president will then pick the winner.
