The Steps of Pittsburgh
Hundreds of streets listed on maps of Pittsburgh are not streets at all; they're staircases. The city steps allow residents to get up and down steep hillsides without navigating winding streets. A University of Pittsburgh professor spent months on a bicycle finding and mapping all of the so-called paper streets, and now he's written a book about them. DUQ's Katherine Fink reports. Bob Regan's book is titled "The Steps of Pittsburgh: Portrait of a City." The StepTrek is held every October. Listen to the full-length story here. This story originally aired on WDUQ on March 15, 2004.
