As Allegheny County works on its first ever comprehensive plan for future growth and development, the 3rd Annual Regional Equitable Development Summit, sponsored by Sustainable PIttsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh's Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership, was held December 15, 2006.
The keynote speaker was john a. powell, executive director of Ohio State's Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. powell said planning is going on all around the country but he says Allegheny County is the only region to include equity as a priority in its planning. Chief Executive Dan Onorato discusses the planning process and then Professor powell addresses equitable development in Southwestern Pennsylvania and best practices around the nation.
