Governor Ed Rendell announced Monday that the state is awarding millions for projects in Allegheny County.
Eighty four million dollars will go to 19 projects.
The money comes from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. It is borrowed money. Governor Ed Rendell said because of this funding, thousands of jobs will be created.
The projects include fifteen million dollars for the renovation of the outdated Produce Terminal in the strip district and 2.5 million for a park downtown at Wood Street and Blvd of the Allies in what is now a parking lot.
Many of the projects are also in distressed areas outside of the city.
"In the Duquesne and McKeesport projects over a hundred and forty acres of brownfields are going to be redeveloped into reusable land that will help D and McKeesport attract additional companies and grow their economies," he said.
Rendell said he expects the incoming administration to honor this announcement.
