Curator Michael Kraus hopes grants can be secured to do an inventory of all the monuments and memorials as to condition, ownership, and historical information. This would be the first step in establishing a list of priorities and a protocol. Some monuments are no longer being taken care of and need cleaning, weeding, or other repairs.
Kraus says Soldiers and Sailors would also act as a clearinghouse for civic groups like the Boy Scouts who would like to volunteer their efforts. He says it's important for today's children and all Americans to be aware that people from their communities served their country when needed.
