Speaking to a group of some 1,500 township officials, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett reaffirmed his opposition to any taxes on natural gas drilling, but did not rule out a local impact fee. Corbett vowed to guard against environmental harm from the drilling. The governor told those in attendance today in Hershey at the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors that environmental safeguards have to be based on "science and not emotion."
