For eight years Eric Mann has been the Chief Executive Officer for the Greater Pittsburgh YMCA, but he is taking the same position in a warmer climate. Mann will soon be the CEO of the YMCA in Jacksonville, Florida. Although the weather is not the reason for the southern migration, Mann says that his time here has been very rewarding.
"Pittsburgh is a very giving community, and I think the advice I would give [to the new CEO] is become a part of the community. Get involved with not only with your organization but figure out and be willing to partner with other organizations to continue to make Pittsburgh a great community to live in."
The YMCA has established a search committee who will be working with the national YMCA to appoint a replacement for Mann. They expect to find a new CEO by the time Mann departs on June 30th.
Mann says that even though he is leaving, there is plenty of opportunity for improvement in the Pittsburgh area. "The sky's the limit," he says. Mann details that there is still work to be done with the McKeesport YMCA merger, the partnership with the Boyd Community Center, and the construction of the new YMCA to be built in the Hill District by April 2012.
