Heidi Overmier, one of three fatalities in the August 4th gym massacre in Collier, was remembered today by fellow Kennywood Park employees as energetic and attentive in an open letter to Overmier’s family and friends. Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas says the normally cheerful park was a bit more somber today.
“It’s hard to put into words, sometimes, how hard it is to have someone you’ve just seen the day before, and talked to the day before, or had business dealings with the day before, and then all of a sudden she’s just not there anymore,” says Gibas.
He says as a sales manager, Overmier organized school picnics for local school districts and accommodated marching bands for the Fall Fantasy Parade. Gibas says park employees are considering putting together a scholarship fund for Overmier’s son, Ian, who, at age 15, will be graduating high school soon.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Overmier wrote and organized local school Christmas pageants; Overmier graduated from West Mifflin High School and Penn State University; and was an active member of First Community Methodist Church in Bridgeville.
