AAA East Central will hold a Great Battery Roundup from 10 am to 3 pm on Tuesday April 12 and Tuesday April 19 at eight branches in the region. Dead batteries will be accepted for recycling, and technicians will provide free battery and electrical system check-ups.
In the past eight years, more than 6500 batteries have been collected, according to Communications Director Bevi Powell. When left lying around garages and basements, old batteries may leak lead and sulfuric acid especially harmful to pets and children, as well as the environment, and they may explode in a fire.
It’s important to wear gloves and safety glasses and to carry them in a box or plastic container. Participating AAA branches are at Century III, Monroeville, the North Hills, Butler, Rochester, Washington, Erie and Weirton, West Virginia.
