Changes for Radio Information Service

Funding problems have forced changes for R-I-S, Radio Information Service. R-I-S, which began 33 years ago, will cease operating as a not for profit entity effective August 14. However, the reading service for the blind will continue under the management of WDUQ-FM. R-I-S Board President Andy Ai and WDUQ General Manager Scott Hanley sent an e-mail to volunteers saying despite dramatic cost-cutting, R-I-S is unable to meet its financial obligations. Hanley says volunteers will continue to read daily newspapers, shopper guides and weekly publications. He says the service is important because everyone should have the opportunity to be a well-informed citizen.
