A “Day of Caring” celebration is taking place Friday to spread the holiday spirit for hundreds of Housing Authority senior citizens and youths. The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh and United Steelworkers have paired together to host the events.
From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., groups are going to visit 10 Housing Authority senior citizen communities and high rises, providing gift bags of HACP information, small gifts and food. They will also be talking to senior citizens to ensure they are doing well. And then, beginning at 4 p.m., activities will begin at the Schenley skating rink for HACP youth 16 and under. There will be ice skating and the distribution of presents, provided by the Allegheny County Labor Council.
HACP Spokeswoman Michelle Jackson-Washington says it’s an event that’s the first of its kind, and it’s not possible without the contributions of generous donors. She says the Housing Authority takes donations at (412) 456 – 5000 for those that wish to help.
