Local Farmers, Health Enthusiasts to Hold Meeting

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center will entertain a group of local farmers this weekend when the 3rd annual Farm to Table Conference is held at the downtown site. The meeting will feature several experts who will speak on the subjects of agriculture and eating healthily. Others will provide live cooking demonstrations and explanations on the importance of buying and eating locally. After the conference, a food tasting will commence, highlighting many dishes grown and prepared in the region. Local breweries and distilleries will also submit their beverages to the taste test. Erin Hart, Director of Health Care Services at the American HealthCare Group, says the economy going sour doesn't mean the same for local produce. "We have more exhibitors than we've ever had, and we have more people registered than we've ever had, so I don't see the economy having a negative impact," says Hart. Hart says events like these are important because they raise awareness of local farmers and help bring attention to that particular sector of the local economy.
