Highway Deaths Drop In PA For Fourth Straight Year
PennDot has announced that highway deaths in the state have dropped for a fourth consecutive year reaching a 14 year low of 1,468 deaths. PennDot believes the decline in highway related fatalities is a result of increased enforcement and education programs. Aggressive driving campaigns have focused on 400 areas of state roadways that are accident prone. Behaviors that make up aggressive driving are speeding, running red lights and stop signs, tailgating, weaving in and out of lanes and failing to yield. Also implemented in January is a program called "Drive Safe PA" that encourages people to practice safe driving habits and hopes to lower highway fatalities to 1,150 or less by 2011.
