New Tenant Wants Murals Removed from One Oliver Plaza

The K&L Gates law firm would like two large murals in the lobby of One Oliver Plaza to find a new home. Sam Berkovitz, owner of Concept Art Gallery, appraised the 14 x 20-foot murals ten years ago and says they work beautifully with the architectural quality of the lobby and would be very difficult and expensive to move. French painter Pierre Soulages' mural is ceramic cemented and built into the wall. Italian-born Virgil Cantini's enameled steel mural is called "Aerial Scape". Cantini is emeritus professor of art at Pitt. Both artists are 90 years old. One Oliver Plaza was completed in 1968, and the murals evoke Pittsburgh's industrial past.
