Sorrowful Citizens, Police Pay Final Respects

Police officers from the city of Pittsburgh, surrounding communities and across the country are gathering to pay their respects to 3 fellow officers killed Saturday in the line of duty. Police bagpipers played as the bodies of Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo II were carried inside the the City-County Building in downtown Pittsburgh this afternoon. The officers were killed responding to a domestic dispute call to 9-1-1. Police Chief Nate Harper says 22 year old Richard Poplawski was waiting with an AK-47 when the officers arrived at his mother's home in Stanton Heights.
The officers will lie in repose at city hall until 10 Thursday morning. The first hour of viewing was restricted to law enforcement officers. Several hundred people were waiting in line when the public viewing began at 4 o'clock this afternoon. A memorial service of the three officers is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at the Petersen Events Center at the University of Pittsburgh.
