Officers Lie in Repose
Hundreds of police officers from across the country filed through the city county building inn the first hour that the three slain Pittsburgh police officers lie in repose. The flag draped caskets of Eric Kelly, Paul Sciullo and Stephen Mayhle will be on view until 10:00am Thursday. The officers were killed Saturday in a shootout with a suspect. After the officers paid their respects the doors were open to the general public. Among them was Tom Offerman of Overbrook. He says his father was a police officer and he lived in fear every day that he would not come home. He says, “Now these families have to deal with that having happened to them.” Sonya Newsome also paid her respects. She says it is the least she could do for the men who put their life’s o the line every day. John Burk says he knew officer Kelly when he was a boy. He says he hopes this will pull our community together and serve as a “wake up call” for young men to stop the violence in the city.
