Student achievement gaps in reading and math have narrowed in Pennsylvania, according to a report released by The Center on Education Policy.
The fifty-state study has the findings of the third year of a multi-year study of student achievement.
The information is based on test scores from The No Child Left Behind Act. Pennsylvania is consistent with the national trend. The report describes overall achievement trends and gap trends within different age, ethnic and economic groups. Achievement for all the groups has gone up, although the achievement gap still exists.
Although it is a national report, the states are not compared with each other, because states use different tests. It is based on scores from 2001 to 2008.
Jack Jennings, President of The Center of Education Policy says although the gap is narrowing, there is still much work to be done.
