Pittsburgh Promise Appeals to City Residents

The Pittsburgh Promise may see a large amount of donations this spring, since they attached a donation form to every tax form in the city of Pittsburgh. Executive Director Saleem Ghubril says the Pittsburgh Promise has made it easy for any taxpayer in the area to donate by attaching instructions for donation and an envelope to the city's tax form this year. The effort comes as part of the program's $15 million June 30th fundraising goal. UPMC challenged the Promise to raise that amount in order to get another $10 million. Ghubril says though usually only 2 or 3 percent of people respond to mailed appeals, he hopes for about 10,000 Pittsburghers to donate this year. The Pittsburgh Promise needs about $6 million more to reach its 2009 goal.
