Pittsburgh City Council has given preliminary approval to a piece of legislation introduced in January of 2008. Councilman Bill Peduto introduced the legislation that would require all publicly financed developments to meed certain green building standards. The bill would require all qualifying developments to meet at least silver leed certification. Peduto said that he expects a final vote on Tuesday July 21st and expects the bill to be approved. He said that even though it is good that Pittsburgh will have this legislation they will still be behind cities like Boston and Dallas which require all new major developments to meet specific leed certifications.
