Northside Protesters Arrested

Pittsburgh police made four arrests during a protest on the North Shore today. Northside United demonstrators decried the pending North Shore amphitheater development outside the Del Monte Building at 11:00 a.m., saying that low-paying jobs procured by the expansion project will do little to protect young Northsiders from the violence plaguing the neighborhood.

Northside United organizer and arrestee Angel Gober says the arrests were planned and were a necessary part of Northside United’s Efforts. “The police do what they do and we understand their authority, but at the same time we have to do these things to make a statement. So, I just wish it would have went a different way, but we’re here, and we’re letting them know we are not going anywhere until they meet with us and talk to us about what’s going on in our neighborhood,” says Gober.

Police Cmdr. RaShall Brackney says before the protest, police were notified that Northside United wanted at least four arrests to be made, according to the Tribune-Review.
