Small games of chance may have bigger prizes in the near future.
Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives passed legislation this week allowing community organizations and clubs to increase their daily prize limits from $500 to $1000 and weekly prize limits from $5000 to $25,000.
Sponsor Representative Tim Solobay says the increases are meant to help struggling community groups survive and continue serving their neighborhoods.
He says the bill also amends the 1988 version to allow the organizations to use revenue to pay operating expenses, like bills and maintenance.
Solobay says the legislation was overdue for an upgrade and will allow these groups to compete with new casino venues in Pennsylvania.
The bill now moves to the state Senate.
