"End the Fed" Movement Includes Pittsburgh

The United States needs a currency backed by hard assets, say supporters of the "End the Fed" movement. They want to abolish the Federal Reserve, which they say is responsible for the current financial crisis. Dave Powell chairs Allegheny County's Libertarian Party and also leads a group called Campaign for Liberty, which is largely made up of people who supported Ron Paul's candidacy for President. He says if U.S. currency is not tied to hard assets like gold or silver, it could collapse entirely.

"End the Fed" rallies took place the weekend before Thanksgiving in 39 cities around the country, including Pittsburgh. Powell says about 40 people attended the Pittsburgh rally, which started at the Federal Reserve's office on Grant Street and then moved into the Strip District. He says his group got several responses to signs that read "honk if you hate the bailout."
