Air Force Reserve Base On Track For Appropriation

The Air Force Reserve's 911th Airlift Wing in Moon Township is on track to receive $12.4 million in federal funding. The Senate Armed Services Committee has okayed the appropriation, which, if it receives full Congressional approval, would be the first for the Airlift Wing since 1996. Since 1996 the Wing has twice been on the Base Realignment And Closure (BRAC) list but both times survived. The base is preparing to receive the funding and has a 4 phase plan to build a new dining hall and temporary quarters on the base for visitors. Airlift Wing spokesman Shawn Walleck says both of the existing buildings are over 50 years old and have become to expensive to maintain.
