Of the seven counties that make up the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area, Butler County had the lowest unemployment rate in September, at 6.8%. Fayette County had the highest rate at 8.5%. All the counties in the area reported rates lower than the 9.2% national average. In the Pittsburgh area, the unemployment numbers from September 2009 to September 2010 represent roughly 90,000 jobs.
