Underground Explosion Injures Woman
A woman is in stable condition at UPMC Mercy with first and second degree burns to her face, legs and arms following an underground explosion on the Boulevard of the Allies in downtown Pittsburgh yesterday afternoon.Pittsburgh Police Sergeant William Gorman says that witnesses report seeing flames shoot up through a metal sidewalk grate, burning the woman who was standing there. Her identity has not been released. Duquesne Light officials say a cable failure caused the explosion which also shook nearby buildings.
