Allegheny County announced that a flag retirement ceremony will commemorate the September 11th attacks as well as those who have dedicated their lives serving the country. The retirement ceremony will take place on Friday, September 10th at 1:00 pm at the North Park Flag Retirement Plaza. The ceremony will include the retirement of flags by local Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops as well as the involvement of local veterans groups and the County Police Honor Guard.
The county is inviting anyone who lives in the region to attend the event. The county also encourages people to turn in their old US flags for proper retirement. Flags that have any tears, rips, or are just dirty can be brought to county offices at North and South Park as well as the County Office Building or room 101 in the County Courthouse.
