Former First Lady Laura Bush was the keynote speaker last night at a private dinner at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh to raise funds for the Flight 93 National Park Memorial in Shanksville, Somerset County. That's the site where the jetliner crashed September 11, 2001 as passengers and crew members fought with terrorists. Mrs. Bush praised the 40 passengers and crew members saying "they resolved to stop their plane from finding its target." It's believed the terrorists intended to crash the plane into the White House or the Capitol.
Mrs. Bush and First Lady Michelle Obama will speak this morning at the 9th anniversary ceremony in Somerset County. Thousands of people are expected to attend at the site of temporary memorial.
The first phase of the permanent memorial is expected to be completed by the 10th anniversary.
