City Workers Want OT for Work They Did Not Do

A union that represents about 600 Pittsburgh employees has filed a grievance asking that some senior employees be paid overtime for work less senior workers performed. By contract, overtime must be offered to union members based on seniority but in the days leading up to the G20 Pittsburgh Summit the rule was not always followed. The city admits the rules were bent but says it was due to the extremely fluid maintenance needs of the Secrete Service, which was taking the lead on security for the event. The Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Unit says those who should have been offered the extra hours should be compensated. About 70 laborers worked a combined 2,000 hours of overtime.
