Homestead Passes Gun Reporting Law

Homestead has passed a law that would require handgun owners to report if their firearm is lost or stolen. They are the tenth Pennsylvania municipality to adopt such a law. Homestead Manager Cindy Alexander says the law doesn’t try to ban guns in any way. She says it just requires owners and police to have a knowledge of where legal handguns are. Alexander says Homestead will be ready should the National Rifle Association choose to take legal action against the ordinance. First time offenders would pay a maximum fine of $500; subsequent offenses could garner 90 days of jail time and/or a $1000 fine.
