Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is encouraging older Pittsburghers to take advantage of extended hours at the city’s senior centers during this week’s heat wave.
Mayoral spokeswoman Joanna Doven says the Homewood and South Side senior centers will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., instead of closing at 4:00 p.m. as is usual.
Doven says the centers have entertainment, not to mention air conditioning. Games, refreshments, and internet access are there for the elderly as they escape the heat. There is no age requirement to get in – Doven says anyone in dire need of cooling is welcome.
Doven says if you are a senior who doesn’t have transportation to one of these centers, call the senior center director nearest you:
South Side – 12th Street and Bingham Street: (412) 488-8404
Homewood – 7321 Frankstown Avenue: (412) 244-4190
