Summerset at Frick to Extend to Browns Hill
The Summerset at Frick Park neighborhood is expanding out to Browns Hill Road where a new intersection will be built with the help of public funds. The $2.9 million project includes a half million dollars from Developers Summerset Land Development Associates and Walnut Capital. The rest will come from PennDot and the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Turn lanes will be added to Browns Hill Road just above the Homestead Grays Bridge where the developers are extending Parkview Boulevard from the neighborhood. The new connection will be the first part of phase two of the Summerset development. That phase will include 125 new homes, 132 apartments and 30,000 square feet of retail. Rubinoff Company Principal Craig Dunham says the new road and intersection gives residents better access to the Waterfront and the Parkway East. Some residents are concerned that the new connection will turn the neighborhood into a short cut from Forward Ave. Dunham says they will be installing a roundabout and several stop signs to help control cars that are just passing through the neighborhood. During the construction traffic will be restricted in the area. The work is expected to continue through late this year or early next year. The commercial development closest to Browns Hill Road is expected to include an IHOP, a Hokkaido Seafood Buffet and a Dr. Dean Ornish Program run by Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
