ACHD Immunizes 690 School Children Yesterday
Many school children and parents lined up outside the Allegheny County Health Department immunizations clinic in Oakland yesterday, after schools turned away nearly 3,000 for not having proof of immunizations. State law says that all students must have the proper vaccinations to attend school and districts countywide began enforcing that law October 1. ACHD Spokesman Guillermo Cole says 690 were immunized at their free clinic yesterday, and nearly 3,000 have been immunized over the past week. Cole says he suspects there are now fewer than 1,000 children throughout the county that still do not have their chicken pox and meningitis shots. He says the ACHD clinic will be open for extended hours until 7p.m..
