Fountains Pink in October for Breast Cancer Awareness

The Pennsylvania Commission for Women turned the fountain at Point State Park pink to raise awareness about the incidence of Breast Cancer and the benefits of an early diagnosis.
They hope the fountain will serve as a reminder for women to do monthly breast self-exams and schedule yearly mammograms.
In Pennsylvania, one our of seven women will have a breast cancer diagnosis said Lesley Stiles, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women.
This is the fifth year the fountain has been turned pink.
On Thursday morning Stiles spoke about the importance of early detection and finding a cure. Other speakers included Bonnie Haar, vice president of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Kathy Purcell, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato.
Other fountains in the county are also pink including the one at the courthouse and at the airport.
