Utility Assistance Program Is Back

The Dollar Energy Fund's utility assistance program is back. The program helps keep utilities from being shut off for families who need assistance in paying their bills. The program awards grants to those who have made an effort to pay their utility bills for the last 90 days but have been unable to pay in full. The program uses dollars raised through donations that are matched by participating utility companies dollar for dollar. Last year the program ran out of money because of the increase in families that needed assistance and this year they are currently in need of $380,000 to ensure that utility company donations are not left on the table. Donations are usually made by checking off a donation box on your utility bill.
