Shopping for Health Care

As of Saturday, Pittsburghers can now purchase their health insurance the same way they purchase cell phones, sneakers and groceries - at a shopping complex.

A Highmark Direct health insurance retail store will open in the North Hills. Employees will sell health insurance plans to individuals and small businesses.

Ed Grystar, staff representative for The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals helped organize a protest in front of the Highmark building in downtown Pittsburgh on Friday.

"This store is a retrogressive, reactionary response to the health care crisis,'' he said, referring to the growing numbers of uninsured and under insured Americans.

In recent years, similar stores have cropped up in Florida and South Carolina.
