Seven Employees Fired From Shuman Center
Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato announced today the firing of seven employees at the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center. Six of the fired employees were childcare workers. One was a chief supervisor. Onorato says the fired workers falsified observation logs and did not perform routine observation checks of youth inmates. The county began investigating procedures at Shuman following a suicide attempt by one inmate in May. Onorato says the investigation is continuing, and he's not ruling out further disciplinary action. He even threatened to close the facility.
