City Charter High School Earns National Recognition

Pittsburgh's City Charter High School has been named a recipient of the New Leaders for New School's Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) Award, making them one of only twenty-one schools to receive the award nationwide. City High, a year-round, technology-infused school for about 520 ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders, has been commended for its student achievement and best practices netting the faculty $160,000 in award money. CEO and Principal of City High Richard Wertheimer says one of the most unique best practices of the school is called "looping" in which students stay with the same teachers for all four years. As a result of the commendation, New Leaders for New Schools will perform a case study on City High's best practices and publish the results. Propel Charter Elementary in Mckeesport also took home an EPIC award.
