Boating to Pirates Games Now a Possibility

Starting Monday, Pittsburghers heading to Pirates games will have another mode of transportation to choose from. The Pittsburgh Water Limo will be available to ride from the Cork Factory dock in the Strip District to the landing at the Roberto Clemente Bridge. Captain Mark Schiller, vice president of the company, says he has faith in his prospective ticket sales, despite 16 consecutive losing seasons for the Pirates. "That's part of the attraction of taking the water limo to the game -- at least you can have some fun on the way and on the way back. We have a liquor license, so you can have some beverages, [children] get a boat ride... Sure, we'd love to see a better baseball team but it doesn't look like that's happening in the near future," says Schiller. Schiller says he would not be surprised if Pittsburghers began to see more of such services on the rivers; his business has steadily grown in popularity over the last ten years. He says the market for water traffic is there, and his own company is planning on adding another boat and a weekend cruise service this summer.
