Elderly Parishoner Fatally Struck Outside Church
An elderly woman was killed and 4 other parishioners were seriously injured as they left Good Friday services at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Forest Hills yesterday afternoon. The Reverend Elmer Kacinko, a retired priest who assisted at the services, was driving his car around to the front of the church when he lost control of the vehicles and struck several people. 89 year old Madeline Romell died about 5 hours later. Four of the injured were taken to UPMC Mercy and Presbyterian Hospitals. Forest Hills Major Ray Heller, a member of the parish, says the injuries are not life threatening and include a broken arm and a broken leg. Angela Taylor, a nurse and parishioner, took care of the injured and said Kacinko told her the accelerator "just went."
