Wind Turbine Project Slowed Down Again

The State Department of Environmental Protection is having Gamesa Energy USA revise its plans for a 30-turbine power project for a 3rd time. The project has been in the permitting process for close to two years and needs to clarify and re submit its plans for storm water management. The project needs to be issued a national pollutant discharge elimination system permit before it can move forward. The are where the turbines are being proposed serves as a migration area for the Federally protected bald eagle and an endangered eastern golden eagle. Also, the proposed site has a state designated exceptional value waterway in its area, Piney Run.Gamesa Energy Head of North American Development, Dan Noble feels that the project will be approved once the plan is re-submitted. The project area is situated along the Allegheny Front and reaches through parts of Shade and Ogle townships in Somerset County.
