Bill about Public Notices
House Bill 795 is to eliminate the requirement for municipalities and school districts to advertise public legal events such as foreclosures and public hearings in newspapers, and instead post the information on the internet. State Representative Peter Daley of Fayette County says these groups spend a lot of money for advertising, and estimates that millions are spent to advertise such events in Allegheny County. However, because only 70 percent of residents have internet access, Daley says that leaves a big hole in who can receive information. The House is discussing ways to make this all-inclusive by possibly adding an amendment to the bill. The Bill will be voted on at the end of June.
