Altmire Predicts Changes to Health Care Bill
Senator Edward Kennedy yesterday introduced legislation regarding health care. Kennedy's bill would require all Americans to get medical insurance, would establish insurance exchanges to facilitate the near-universal coverage and would increase the amount of oversight that the government has over the health care system. The bill also would require private health insurers to cover people who have pre-existing conditions and would reward hospitals and doctors that provide high-quality care. Congressman Jason Altmire says he doesn't believe the bill will pass as is. Altmire predicts that the bill will be amended and will have many aspects that won't survive the approval process. Altmire said that even though there is disagreement about how to reform health care, he believes that everyone agrees that the current health care system needs to be changed.
