Macy's will close Natrona Heights Plaza and Century III Furniture and Clearance. They have been identified by the company as underperforming stores. The store in Natrona Heights opened in 1956 and currently has 124 employees. There are 3 workers at the West Mifflin center. Macy's officials says the workers will be considered for jobs at other locations. These stores are among 11 Macy's is closing across the country because they failed to meet sales expectations.
Terry Lundgren, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Macy's, says in a statement that the "decision to close stores is difficult, and often occurs when the market changes, new competing shopping centers are opened nearby to existing older ones, or when customers change shopping habits." He says "these closings are part of our normal-source process to prune underperforming locations each year in order to maintain a healthy portfolio of stores."
Final clearance sales at the stores will begin within the next week.
