Photo IDs May Be Required at PA Polls
Senator Jane Orie(R) of Allegheny and Butler Counties is introducing legislation that would have state voters present a picture ID each time they visit the polls. She says the measure would help cut back on voter fraud in the state. "If you go into an airport, you have to show a photo ID. If you write a check, you have to show ID... This is common sense. [Voting] is an important thing," says Orie. The Senate Majority Whip says if one does not have a photo ID, they can bring with them two other forms of identification, such as a birth certificate or utility bill. Orie says other states have passed similar efforts and had no negative ramifications. If passed, the bill would take effect in 60 days -- enough time by far to be a requirement by the next general election.
