PennDOT is closing the inbound (eastbound) lanes of the Parkway West (I-279 and Route 22/30) will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday April 3 through 5 a.m. Monday April 6 in Robinson and Collier Townships. Signs will be posted and police will help direct traffic.
Inbound traffic will exit at the Route 22/30/60 interchange and follow Route 60 southbound to the Interstate 79 interchange; take I-79 south and follow that to the Parkway West Interchange (Exit 59B) and then reenter the Parkway toward Pittsburgh.
PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi says the rain actually helps the milling work by cutting down on the dust. But if it rains Sunday, that could affect the laying of binder paving on the roadway.
This is the first of five closures on the Parkway west as crews mill, patch and resurface the Parkway West between the Settlers Cabin and I-79 interchanges. The work is the completion of the $67.5 million I-79 Parkway West "missing ramps" project. In addition to the new ramps that opened to traffic last November, extensive work is being done to the parkway to add a third lane in each direction. The project will be completed in June.
