Charges against former Allegheny County Coroner Cyril H. Wecht have been dropped. U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan filed a motion this morning to dismiss all of the charges against Dr. Wecht. In all there were originally 84 charges brought against Dr. Wecht.
Dr. Wecht said he is relieved that all the charges have been dropped even though his defense has left him in debt. He said he had no other choice but to fight the charges since a conviction on even one charge would have resulted in the loss of his medical license. Dr. Wecht said he has not give much thought to filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Attorney’s office because he wants to enjoy his victory.
