Peace Month
In the wake of the April slayings of three Pittsburgh police officers, as well as ongoing local violence, an organization is taking steps against violence. Operation Save One held an awareness event downtown at Market Square, declaring June "Peace Month" in the Pittsburgh Region. Ron Garland, of Operation Save One, says now is the time, because the summer months are normally a time when crime rates spike. If citizens are able to acknowledge Peace Month as a time to make a difference, such as greeting passersby with a smile or simply maintaining a good role model for children to follow, it would be able to have a ripple effect.
